The new LRT line coming to Eglinton Avenue will be a huge perk to residents of Silverthorn Heights, the new housing enclave by Icon Homes. But the project’s location at 55 Ypres Road, a side street just south of Keele and Eglinton, is home to plenty of other amenities as well.
Whether you’re looking to hit the shops, strap on your skates or just relax with a good book, the surrounding area has you covered. We looked into some of the benefits of calling the community home:
Coronation Park
Enjoy 8.5 hectares of green space just west of Eglinton and Keele. The many perks of the public space include the amphitheatre, baseball diamond, two basketball courts, bocce courts and tennis court. Plus if you’re looking for local, kid-friendly activities, there’s also a splash pad and playground too.
Scarlett Woods Golf Course
Looking to hit the greens on the weekend? Practice your swing at the nearby Scarlett Woods Golf Course, an executive-length par 62 course suitable for both beginners and experts. After you’ve teed off, enjoy the restaurant and lounge space in the club house.
Chris Tonks Arena
Located in nearby Keelesdale Park, the arena features “Learn to Skate” programs for all ages. Take a walk down to the rink for some ice time — the arena offers both supervised and unsupervised skates, public skates and shinny hockey too.
Evelyn George Library
Need something to read? The public library is just a few steps south at 120 Trowell Avenue. Bring your laptop and take advantage of the free wi-fi or attend the branch’s regular events or book club meetings.
Shopping Centres
All your shopping needs are covered when you call Silverthorn Heights home. Aside from the many grocery shops and some big box stores along Eglinton West, there’s also Lawrence Plaza shopping centre just ten minutes north. It’s a hub for all kind of practical purchases. Also a quick drive north, the Yorkdale Shopping Centre is a great place to indulge in some boutique shopping, grab dinner or even catch a movie.
Multicultural Fare
You can sample pastries at local Italian bakeries, grab West Indian take-out, or enjoy a Chinese restaurant — the area is home to cuisine from across the globe. Few parts of the city are home to this many authentic eateries.
Silverthorn Heights features 43 new homes, ranging in size from 1,796 to 3,730 square feet. Buyers can choose from semis or detached plans.
Residences start from the mid-$500,000s.
