I pay close attention to celebrity hairstyles at the Oscars for the simple reason that it gives me insight into what hairstyle trends are likely to unfold throughout the year. Let’s face it the Oscars are the Superbowl for stylists. This is where they pull out the stops on their creative inspiration. This is where they get recognition for their skill. What happened Sunday night is having a powerful effect on what hair stylists are recommending to their clients this morning. So here are my favorites:
Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock’s long, wavy hair was swept to one side as the finishing touch to her glamourous, Old Hollywood hairstyle at this year’s Oscars.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron showed up on the red carpet sporting her sleek, short hairstyle, parted on one side and swept back gently.
Kerry Washington
Kerry’s hair is gently pinned back at the top, but left flowing gently over her shoulders, exposing her radiant smile and glow.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence’s short hair was elegantly swept off her face at the Oscars, showing the versatility of her short, cropped cut.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita is my fashion icon for the season, and every fashion icon has to have great hair. Her short, natural hairstyle is longer at the top but very close on the sides and perfectly accented with a single, glittery headband.
Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel let those soft wavy curls go, and the result was absolutely beautiful.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz swept her long, ombre locks into an elegant updo.
Emma Watson
The ponytail is huge in hair fashion this year, and Emma Watson just showed the world how it’s done at this year’s Oscars. A few soft curls framing the face and less structure on the ponytail offers an effortlessly romantic look.
Of course, I watch the Oscars each year hoping to celebrate my favorite performances, but we all secretly tune in for the red carpet fashion and celebrity hairstyles. This year’s Oscars did not disappoint, inspiring us all to imagine these glam looks on ourselves.
