Museum Row on Main (MROM) $5 February
The promotion encourages locals to enjoy these wonderful attractions that are close to home. Thanks to $5 February, Kentucky and Indiana residents can escape a dreary, cold winter day and take advantage of world-class, indoor entertainment without having to travel very far or spend a lot of money. The following Museum Row on Main partners will offer the discount all month long: Frazier History Museum Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft KentuckyShow! Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory Muhammad Ali Center To take advantage of the offer, guests must show proof of residency in Kentucky or Indiana, such as a driver’s license or alternate ID while purchasing tickets. Others in the party will also receive the $5 admission, a substantial savings over $9 – $13 regular ticket prices. The special offer cannot be combined with other discounts, and does not apply to special tours or events.
The MakerPlace
The MakerPlace allows kids and families to bring ideas and inventions to life. We’ll help you find inspiration, learn to use cool tools like laser cutters and 3D printers, figure out how to turn a handful of electronics and wires into programmable machines, and much more. We can make anything from robotic pets, to jewelry that senses your heartbeat, to marshmallow shooters, whatever you can dream up! Why do-it-yourself? We can do it better together. No two workshops are alike, we challenge you to design something new at each workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring a hack-able object from home for a one of a kind creation. Family – friendly makerspace workshops, led by a Kentucky Science Center educator, at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana are a great opportunity to get involved in the exciting makerspace movement. Design, build, tinker experiment and invent all sorts of gadgets and gizmos- and take your new invention home! ALL WORKSHOP DATES ARE 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: January 4 and 18 February 1 and 15 March 1 and 15 April 5 and 19 May 17 Spaces are limited, please visit gskentuckiana.org/Events.aspx to register.
11th annual PUPPET PROM fundraiser
All are welcome to come out Valentine’s weekend to support Louisville’s non-profit puppet theater company and spend a night dancing, romancing and celebrating those awkward first dates. Song and dance man SCOTT CARNEY (of Louisville’s own Wax Fang) will perform, wowing the crowd with prom hits like a modern-day Marty McFly. DJ’s SAM SNEED & SAVANNAH BARRETT will be spinning hits to shake even Kevin Bacon’s footloose. You can document the awkward date madness with MAGNOLIA PHOTO BOOTH, enter the Prom King and Queen contest, peruse our city-famous SILENT AUCTION, purchase DINNER & DRINKS, interact with and create your own puppets and witness Squallis’ newest production, ‘FIRST DATES PUPPET SHOW,’ a live performance written and performed for this night only! WILTSHIRE PANTRY’s top shelf staff will be tending bar and serving food, with additional deliciousness provided by GRING BURGER Truck and LIL’ CHEEZERS Gourmet Grilled Cheeses. PUPPET PROM is as “”formal”" as you want it to be, giving everyone a way to re-examine high school angst, awkward first dates and the chance to finally win best dressed Prom King and Queen, an honor awarded by our panel of celebrity judges. The evening is appropriate for ALL AGES, with something to make everyone’s night memorable! Festivities start at 6:00 pm and go until 11:00 pm. This year’s Prom will be held in OUR NEW HOME, Highlands Community Campus at 1228 E. Breckinridge St, across from Wiltshire Pantry, where our classic gymnasium has been transformed into a PROM-tastic dance hall. There is ample room for the arrival of stretch limos and mingling with large puppets. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 – $25 sliding scale. All proceeds will support Squallis Puppeteers’ educational and community enrichment programs. https://www.facebook.com/events/1452265428330763/
