Our top 5 soft furnishing tips

Over the past couple of months, we've been sharing some of our top soft furnishing tips with our Facebook fans, so we thought we'd share them with our blog followers too. From colours to cosy door curtains, we've showed some of the simplest ways to get to grips with your soft furnishings.
1)      Make a small room appear bigger by decorating and furnishing with lighter colours - this opens up a room and gives the illusion of space. It's not to say your should steer clear of dark colours altogether, they do work well if you're trying to create a glamorous look in your home and have a lot of space to play with.
2)      Live on a busy street? Keep prying eyes at bay with nets or voiles. The great thing about net curtains is that they keep your home private, but still allow natural light to come on. It's a common misconception that net curtains are old fashioned - a crisp white set of net curtains look lovely in a modern home.
3)      Give a tired sofa a new lease of life with a decorative throw. New sofas are expensive, and at this time of year with Christmas just behind us, most of us don't have spare cash lying around to buy a new suite. A really easy way to jazz up that old sofa is by adding a throw over the top.
4)      Change your mind often? Keep your walls neutral and add a splash of colour with soft furnishings. Wanting to freshen up your home from time to time is normal, it's nice to have a bit of a change. A way to freshen your home up on a budget is by swapping soft furnishing such as throws and cushions to give your home a new look rather than buying new furniture and painting your walls.
5)      When purchasing nets, remember to allow for gather. Double the width of your window is what we recommend. This will help to give a fuller look.
