Street artists Curiot and Jason Botkin recently collaborated for the first time on a vibrant mural located on Holbox Island in Mexico. Their art covers a halved dome shell at the Concha Acústica. This engaging and lively image is outfitted in brilliant fuchsias, teals, corals, and lime greens that look wonderful set against the beach landscape. As the duo's artistic sensibilities intertwine, there’s a calamity of hands, flowers, serpents, and more. They took inspiration from local cultural folklore and incorporated elements of it in their work.
The guys worked side by side on this project and it’s truly a joint effort. Unlike some collaborators, their visual styles are similar. They both use patterns, funky shapes, saturated colors, and delight their viewers with strange characters.
This mural was made possible by Public Art Festival in Mexico (known as IPAF), who invited Curiot and Botkin to participate. The goal of the event is to build a space that enriches artistic creation and provides additional cultural and touristic offerings to Holbox Island. In addition, it gives locals a way to bond with artists from abroad. Judging from the great outcome of the collaboration, it looks like citizens will enjoy this piece for a long time.
