Collecting vintage Mid-Century decor can be fun, rewarding, and fiscally responsible; however, it can also be frustrating, and costly. The same chair can easily be sold for under $100 at an estate sale or thrift shop, but go for thousands at auction. Collecting vintage is an art in itself.
A Great list put together by Reddit user Tallread1 is a great resouce for vintage vendors. These shops are not auctions, and will usually run a lower price tier than sites such as 1stdibs, which specialize in auction type listings, and often have rather steep price tags.
If you are the down and dirty type, there is some huge opportunity to be found through craigslist, estate sales, and thrift shops. Most sellers on through these mediums do not know the true value of what they are selling, and simply want a little return on their investment. A good find can usually be fixed up for a small price, and allow you to multiply your investment considerably. You can sometimes even find something in good enough shape to flip without any investment. However, be cautious, as there are a lot of vintage looking replicas that you are better of buying new.
Sometimes you will be better off saving your time and money, and just buying a well made mid-century reproduction or replica at an affordable price. Manufacturers have stepped up their games, and you can often find a very solid reproduction without any hassle, and without bankrupting yourself.
