The Serpentine Sackler Gallery in Hyde Park was the serine yet quintessentially British setting for the Belstaff Presentation.
The idea behind it was a “tribute to the spirit of the rebel; the woman who rides with an irreverent attitude. With this authentic and effortless rider in mind, the youth culture from Manchester to London in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s is a central source of inspiration”.
So warmth, strength and hard, heavy textures would symbolise the gritty powerful attitude of the woman they had in mind. Quilting, thick leather, canvas, warmest wools and fur collars.
The effortless make-up and windswept hair also reflected the theme behind the collection.
A masculine silhouette was mixed with long feminine skirts (the pleated leather was to die for!) and patterned jumpers; signifying the ‘mod look’ they had in mind.
Layering was key to their collection. Heavy mittens strapped up over tough parka jackets teamed with chunky leather boots. Next up came minimal, long-sleeved leathers with matching leather biker gloves together with roll-out-fringe shoes (a fave of ours) and thick-knit socks over tights.
It was a gracious soiree, brilliant lighting and visuals to accompany a tough yet elegant A/W ’14 look.
