When building a product, one of the first things you should ask yourself is whether this is something you would use. That way, at the very least you’ll have 1 user. And if things go really well, 3 years later you’ll have over 50 million ; )
It was about 3 yrs ago when I started working on Scan, a simple app that quickly scans bar codes and QR codes. Also, a website where businesses and individuals can easily generate their own custom codes. Since then, Scan has continued on a mission to enable digital actions in the real world using our mobile scanning technologies. For example, you can “LIKE” your favorite smoothie cafe on Facebook from your computer, but can you easily do the same when you’re actually at the cafe enjoying a smoothie? You can also “BUY NOW” concert tickets from your computer, but what about when you’re on the street standing in front of a promotional poster? With Scan, you can.
And now Instagram. I love Instagram but often get frustrated finding the correct account for a business. Have you ever tried to find the official account for Pixar? How about for BYU Athletics (my University)? Embarrassingly difficult. Another problem, especially for businesses promoting their accounts, is the lack of analytics or reporting on any promotional efforts. Instagram QR codes by Scan can solve these tricky problems.
Here’s a quick step by step process HOW I USE INSTAGRAM QR CODES:
To get started, visit Scan’s website : https://scan.me/instagram
Creating your code is as easy as giving your new code a Title and inputting your Instagram username as shown above.
As soon as you click the “Save” button, a zip file is immediately downloaded to your computer containing your new code in a variety of useful formats.
As shown above, the zip file contains your code in JPG, PNG, and vector EPS formats. This makes it easy for use online, print, and more!
I placed my Instagram code on some business cards. I used NextDayFlyers.com for this batch. They’re incredibly fast, high quality, and very affordable.
Whenever I’m speaking at a University or conference I’ll have some cards distributed to the audience beforehand. As I begin speaking, I can literally feel my phone go off as members of the audience scan my code and follow me on Instagram.
After the event, I can check my phone and see the results. Of course Instagram’s notification/news page shows new followers. But I can also check my Scan dashboard to see exactly how many people scanned the code, conversion rates, devices, location, and other useful information. Above is the mobile view and below is the desktop version of my Scan analytics dashboard.
Of course this is just 1 of many ways Instagram QR codes can be used. A simple product bringing simple value.
If you’ve made it to this point and haven’t yet tried scanning an Instagram code, then you should immediately:
Download the Scan app and try scanning any of the codes above. See what I mean? Easy right?
Try it out. Create your own Instagram QR code. If you share it with me I’ll promote it onScan’s social networks for the world to see : )
