February is American Heart Month

We all know February means Valentine’s Day but did you know February is also American Heart Month? Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, but it is also a preventable and controllable disease. Since we love you Coupon Cactus nation, we’re going to give you some tips to keep your ticker happy and healthy (courtesy of the CDC).
  • Eat a healthy diet. This is a no brainer, but yet, most of us still don’t eat as well as we can or should. Choosing healthy options doesn’t just keep your heart in good shape, but also the rest of your body. And if you don’t want to go to the supermarket (like this blogger) you can order online. We’ve got some partners that will save you money on your healthy choices and put some cash back in your wallet. eMealsHelloFreshMagic Kitchen, and Fit & Fresh are just a few of our partners who can help you get started.
  • Exercise regularly. One of the great things about February being American Heart Month is that it can help remind you of those resolutions you made in January. Go to the gym more? Start going for walks after dinner? Sign up for yoga? Don’t lose sight of those New Year’s resolutions just because it is no longer January. Regular exercise is great for your body, mind, and spirit. Even if you don’t feel like trekking on over to the gym, you’ll definitely be happy that you made yourself go. We promise.
  • Maintain a healthy weight. Follow the first two suggestions and this should follow!
  • Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoking greatly increases your risk for heart disease.  But you already know this. It’s also not sexy. So if keeping your heart and lungs healthy isn’t enough motivation, consider the color of your teeth, the smell of your clothes, hair, car, house, and how much less kissable you are after taking a drag from a cigarette.
  • Have your cholesterol checked. Preventative healthcare! Go for regular physicals, and be sure to have your cholesterol levels checked. You want to get ahead of any developing issues so they are easier to manage and correct.
And you can start small. Any change you make towards a healthier lifestyle is better than no change at all.
