Are you flying for the holidays? Do those news stories about gifts disappearing from checked luggage scare you?
They scare me too, and I fly somewhere for Christmas almost every year. So my best holiday travel tip: ship it or buy it online.
I’m flying to be with family this Christmas, and starting to get my suitcases packed. What’s not in my luggage? Christmas gifts! Yesterday I took all my wrapped gifts to UPS, purchased a box, and shipped my gifts to my destination. The gifts will arrive on time, wrapped, and safe.
Why ship UPS? (Post Office could work too, depending on your destination)
- I shipped my gifts over 10 days before Christmas so I’m before the bedlam, and there was no line at UPS.
- I shipped ground so the fee was (relatively) low
- My gifts are all wrapped, so no last minute hassles when I arrive
Did I ship all my gifts yesterday? No: the gifts I ordered online I had delivered to my destination (family).
Deliver online purchases to your destination, not to you
- Save time and money: Instead of having my online purchases sent to me, then packing and taking them to my destination I had my gifts sent to my destination, and saved the time and money to bring them myself later. I just let them know Santa was having a package delivered: do not open!
- Online purchases are confirmed via email, and usually have tracking details so I know where my gift is and when it is being delivered.
- Always be sure to check guaranteed delivery dates so that your gift is under the tree on Christmas Eve.
