When you’re a programmer, your skills are often confined to your workplace or home office. But some of my favorite programming moments have come when my abilities seemed the least relevant to the situation.
Take two weeks ago, for example, when a couple of my friends got together to play video games on a Wednesday night.
Things were getting a little boring, so we decided to check out #TwitchPlaysPokemon, an experiment conducted on twitch.tv where tens of thousands of people played a game of Pokemon simultaneously. Somebody decided to create this channel along with an IRC bot so that essentially the viewers vote for the action they want to make in the chat box.
Tens of thousands of people deciding if we should move up, down, left, right… or do other stuff. Absolute anarchy.
