Syracuse University has a rich history of musicians who have come through the school. Lou Reed, Vanessa Williams and Pete Yorn are just a few of the greats who have called Syracuse home at some point.
For the past three years I have been proud to be able to give more than 50 different independent and major label artists exposure online from the Syracuse community through the SUxSW Mixtape thanks to The Bandier Program and the iSchool.
These mixtapes have been distributed and promoted online through social networks, local press like Syracuse.com, and also via download cards passed out throughout SXSW.
The success has been huge. In total the SUxSW series has been downloaded more than 30,000 times in over 50 different countries. We have received submissions from more than 150 students and alums, and this year we’re bringing it back again.
From now until March 6th we will be accepting submissions from current students and alumni who want their band (or musical work) featured on the compilation. A special panel of music industry insiders (to be announced soon) will be choosing their favorites for the mixtape.
