It is amazing just how far technology keeps going. I am not that old but I remember being at school and being taught to project my voice so that everyone can hear me because it was essentially easier to rely on the children being able to project their voices than to get good performance from the microphones. First of all they used to be big, all wires and the feedback they gave off was something frightful and then they could not be relied on to be working on the day.
Yet today, if you had to pick up a lapel microphone at guitar center you would find (if they had any in stock that is) that they are cheap, tiny and inconspicuous and worked well. They essentially pick up the person talking or singing and not all the background noise. They sound good too as they have no crackling noises or feedback. They are wireless and non cumbersome, which means they do not detract from the performance or talk and it does not act as a reminder that you are complete on show especially if suffering from stage fright.
What more could you want?
