They are extremely powerful because shoppers are more apt to be persuaded to buy via a video versus a photo and a description. This is why American companies spend millions of dollars for a 30 second spot during the Superbowl.

Although marketing using video can have a positive impact, if done improperly, it can also negatively affect how a cunsumer views your company. Be sure you don’t make these missteps as you create your video marketing content.

1. Not Knowing Your Desired End Result

Simply shooting a product and talking about it or talking about your services typically won’t cut it. You need to have a grasp of what you want to accomplish with your video. Is it more sales? Or to get the customer to click the link that leads to a product? Perhaps it’s to inspire them to sign up for product updates. Sketch out your ideas before shooting and ad-libbing through a non-effective video.

2. Having An Unfocused Message

Now that you know exactly what you want to achieve with your video, be sure to edit your copy thoroughly. Get to your message quickly and stay on topic. Many videos ramble on about their product or service and they don’t get to the point-so they lose their viewer.

3. Content Lacking Excitement

You don’t need to blow the viewers mind with some incredible special effects, but you do need to spark some excitement, especially at the beginning of the video. The average length of time an internet user watches a video is less than 10 seconds, so you better grab them if you want to keep them.

4. Going For Quantity Not Quality

You’ll find much better success if you create a few high quality videos instead of three dozen terrible ones. Go for one or two videos per week at most, and build a library of great ads for your company. Your goal is for one video to take off and possibly go viral. Once that happens, your other videos will grow too-and it would be bad if they are of low quality!

5. Videos That Are Too Long

Although it might be important for you to get certain information across, if your video is too long, people won’t watch it or share it. Therefore, do your best to keep videos under 3 minutes. 1 minute videos are even better!

6. Where Is It?

If you’re producing great videos, be sure they are easily accessible on your website. So many companies put their videos on the bottom of the page instead of near the top where they should be.

7. Not Making it Easy To Share

Can a customer who likes your video easily share it on their Facebook or website? This is what you want so be sure to provide a link for the video or a share button.

8. Forgetting About Social Media You can’t count on customers tweeting or using pinterest--you need to do it yourself. Be sure to take full advantage of all the social networking sites by sharing your video everywhere.

9. The Power Of YouTube

By uploading the video directly to your web page, you are missing out on the biggest online video site on the web. It’s almost better to upload your video to YouTube, then embed it onto your site. You will potentially reach a much bigger audience that way.

10. Not Using Direct E-mail

If you have an email list that you are not using, you are missing out on one of the most powerful tools for your video promotion. Simply sending out a quick message to your subscribers telling them, “Hey, we have a new video out!” and providing a link will get more views than only posting it online.
