You would have thought the guys at LinkedIn would make managing the LinkedIn Managers Choice easy, right?
Nope. Not even close.
Managers Choice is a nice little feature to highlight certain LinkedIn group discussions that are especially useful.
When you mark a discussion as a LinkedIn Managers Choice, it then gets added to the rotating “Hero Image” slider, like this:
How Do I Add A Discussion To LinkedIn Managers Choice?
Click a LinkedIn discussion title and you will be taken to the more detailed view of the content. Below your profile picture at the top-left of the page, there are some grey links – one of them says…
“Add to Managers Choice”
It’s here in case you’re stuck…
How Do I Manage The LinkedIn Managers Choice Area?
It’s quite unusual, but click on the Search tab from the top group navigation bar. In the next window, on the left hand-side menu, you will see a link called Managers Choice.
To remove an item from LinkedIn Managers Choice:
- Navigate to the Manager’s Choice screen from the Search tab
- Click the discussion title to enter the detailed discussion page
- Find the grey link called Manager’s Choice (undo)*
(*The same link from the image above changes after a discussion has been added to the LinkedIn Managers Choice area)
To rearrange the order of LinkedIn Managers Choice:
- Click the Set Manager’s Choice Order link from the Search tab
- Change the boxed numbers to the left of each Manager’s Choice discussion
- Click the blue Save Changes button
Has LinkedIn Forgot About The Managers Choice Feature?
With all the updates happening with the LinkedIn interface, you would expect that they would address this long-standing issue.
It’s not like people haven’t bought this to LinkedIn’s attention before (here, here and here to name but a few).
I like the LinkedIn Managers Choice feature, but think it can be improved further. Now that you can add a Hero Image to the group slider, the Managers Choice items always sit behind it. This means they are typically out of sight.
LinkedIn could increase their invisibility by introducing a Managers Choice section in the group sidebar.
Without getting too off topic, it’s astonishing to me how little LinkedIn values it’s sidebars.
The sidebars in profiles, groups and pages have been so undervalued that I usually completely ignore them. If you compare this practice against any decent blog, then webmasters understand how much value the sidebar brings to their site. Sidebars increase conversions, stickyness, value, engagement and a whole host of other important metrics.
Are You A LinkedIn Group Administrator?
If you’re a LinkedIn group owner or administrator, it would be great to get your thoughts in the comments below on how you would like to see the LinkedIn Managers Choice section improved.
Are there any specific features you would like to see introduced to LinkedIn groups?
Do you even use Manager’s Choice?
