Looking Ahead at Social Media

If there’s one thing I have learned in my years of developing social media strategies for my clients, it is that social media is not going away any time soon.
The other thing I have learned is that social media is always changing.
There is no such thing as a social media expert (and be wary of those who claim to be), because there is no way that a single individual is capable of always staying on top of every new trend in social media marketing.
That is why the secret to social media marketing success (yep, I’m giving it away for free) is flexibility.
You have to be willing to try a number of different approaches (or hire someone who will do it for you) to achieve the best impact, and sometimes, what works well for one month may not work as well the next month.
Which is why the next secret to success that I’m going to hand you is this: Be consistent.
I don’t mean post the same thing every day at the same time. I mean be there. Don’t post a blog and then do nothing for three months and then post a few tweets. Every week you should be active on all of your platforms, including your blog. Your posts don’t need to be long, but the more frequently you update your blog, the more regularly it will be indexed by search engines.
Instead of trying to keep up with Google algorithms or trying to guess what the next best thing will be on social media, focus on being consistent, on offering value and on being responsive and engaging with your fans and followers.
For 2014 I leave you with this: Be authentic and genuine. Share more than just the stuff you are trying to sell and promote. Care about the people who take the time to follow you, retweet you or like you and your posts.
And if you’re ready to set your social on fire, let me know!
