The 2013 year is on its way out the door. Can you believe how quickly the time has passed? And 2014 promises to be a fabulous year for online businesses as well as brick-and-mortar businesses hoping to enhance their online visibility. Just for the fun of it, I have put together a list of social media predictions. Let’s all meet back here at the end of the year and see how well I did.
Facebook
Amid all the grumbling, Facebook will continue to roll out auto-play video ads. Big businesses and those businesses with a hefty social- marketing budget will benefit, and while there may be some aggravation, Facebook will keep growing.
Pinterest
Pinterest will continue to be one of the strongest traffic referrers for B2C, and B2B will begin to really pay attention to how they can leverage Pinterest for better growth. Pinterest will roll out sponsored pins and boards to a larger audience.
Twitter
The success of Twitter’s IPO will result in even more growth; both the B2B and B2C communities will benefit from enhancements that Twitter makes in their ability to refine targets.
LinkedIn
LinkedIn will really come into its own in 2014, for both B2B and B2C. The new featured pages for companies will be a hit, allowing them to really enhance their presence on this platform.
Google+
Google+ has been on a slow burn for the last couple of years, but I predict it will explode in 2014. Already there are signs of improved adoption and more engagement. If you’re not using Google+ or do not have a Google+ page for your business, do it NOW.
YouTube
Video sells; period. In 2014 a video channel will become an indispensable option.
Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, Tumblr, MySpace
These lesser-known platforms will grab specific niches. MySpace has already evolved into a musician’s space; Snapchat and Vine will likely earn ad dollars because of their ability to target a younger audience, and Instagram may yet find a way to give Pinterest a run for its money.
What do you think? Are my predictions dead-on?
